About Not for Wallflowers

Not for Wallflowers is where my passions for style, interior design, wallpaper, fashion and my journey buying and decorating my Brooklyn home collide.

In 2007 while a student at Pratt Institute I launched my blog to document my summer studying textile design in Copenhagen. It evolved over the years from a place to showcase my student work to design inspirations and musings to the launchpad for my wallpaper and home decor company Kimberly Lewis which I launched in 2011. Today the website has been revamped into a creative space to document my daily design and fashion inspirations as well as to share personal anecdotes about my life in Brooklyn, New York as a first time home owner.

About Kimberly

Kimberly is the voice of Not for Wallflowers and the found of her eponymous company Kimberly Lewis. She founded her company in 2011 and shortly after was dubbed by Apartment Therapy as one of the “8 Brooklyn Wallpaper Designers To Watch” Kimberly’s interest in design started at a young age, growing up Kimberly’s mother predicted that one day she would design wallpaper for Laura Ashley. Kimberly likes to think that she is even happier with this outcome.  Kimberly grew up in New England and has been living in New York City for the past thirteen years, she likes to think that the Northeast is in her DNA and finds inspiration in both the bustle of the city and the calm of the country and seaside.

Kimberly holds a Bachelors of Industrial Design from Pratt Institute and studied Textile Design at the Danish Design School. Outside of her own company Kimberly has designed and developed patterns and products for companies such as Clinique, Macy’s, Dwellstudio, SkipHop, WolfGordon, The Jewish Museum of NYC, JMcLaughlin, Champion, Hanes and more. In 2013 and 2017 Kimberly was honored to have five of her wallpapers acquired by the Brooklyn Museum for their decorative arts permanent collection. Kimberly has spoken about design, wallpaper and running her own business at panels for Apartment Therapy, The New York Design Center, Grange Furniture, New York Junior League, Pratt Institute and her favorite as regular speaker at career day at her high school Bishop Guertin High School.
